Schoeps Sphere KFM 6

The SCHOEPS sphere KFM 6 was positively the worst sounding microphone I ever put on a piano.

This mic might work for some applications such as a mic to pick up ambience, but it is definitely NOT a piano mic. The marketing hype about inter-aural spectral vs angular incidence just didn't add up. The sound it produced was strange and alien. The dynamics of sound it produced were odd. In my mic world, it qualifies as a specialty mic for limited applications. For example, its use in orchestral recording is simply to provide an alternative ambient stereo field to pick from. Even the local Schoeps dealer didn't use it as a single stand alone stereo recording mic. Because this mic is so expensive, I don't recommend it unless you can try it FREE before you buy. If you spend hundreds of dollars renting it, you will probably regret it as I did.

Hopefully by now, this mic has been updated.
